Spherical roller bearings have a lot of symmetric rollers with big diameters and show a very high load capacity. As they can be orientated, they don’t suffer neither for the shaft’s alignment mistakes compared with the seat nor for the inflexions of the shaft itself.
Spherical roller bearings (PF Quality) are designed with two rows of rollers rolling on a single spherical raceway in the outer ring. The two corresponding raceways of the inner ring are inclined with respect to the bearing axis. This configuration allows them to be swivelled and adapt to moderate shaft misalignments with respect to the housing, without compromising operation or being affected by deflection. They are capable of bearing radial and axial loads in both directions.
As far as spherical roller bearings are concerned, several types are distinguished:
Open bearings:
These bearings are manufactured in different variants depending on size and series. They are available with a tapered or cylindrical bore. The tapered bore can have a taper of 1:30 (240, 241, 248 and 249 series, indicated by the suffix K30) or 1:12, the latter marked by the letter K. In addition, a circumferential groove and three lubrication holes on the outer ring simplify lubrication of the bearing.
Bearings with built-in seals:
These bearings have seals reinforced by means of steel plates, made of nitrile rubber and lubricated with special grease for very high pressures. It is important not to exceed 80°C and not to wash these bearings.
Bearings for vibrational applications:
In vibrational applications, such as in screens or exciters, bearings are subjected to higher stresses than standard bearings.
